SMMHS will host an in-person registration session for families new to our school community. Registration will be on Monday, August 4th, from 9:00am to 11:00am. Staff will be available for families to get assistance with registration, scheduling, and learning more about SMMHS. All new families should stop by the MEF table for a free gift and for an invite to our new family tailgate on August 29th!

6th Grade Orientation- SAVE THE DATE! We are so excited to welcome our newest Eagles, the Class of 2032! Please save the date for the 6th Grade Orientation on Monday, August 4th from 10:00-11:00am. Parents are invited to attend a brief presentation and students will meet their Activity Period teacher, get schedules, lockers, and learn more about becoming first-day ready. Families should receive a separate communication with all of the details for this event. All new families to the mountain should stop by the MEF table for a free gift and for an invite to our new family tailgate on August 29th!

Transportation- use the district transportation link to make bus stop requests and to use the bus finder tool to locate your bus stop and bus number. Important reminder!- make sure your student knows their bus numbers for both AM and PM. If there is a chance your student could ride the bus home at ANY point this year, please make sure they know. We will update bus information in PowerSchool to assist with communication to families when changes are made. You can also sign up for our bus text alerts HERE.

Car Line Information- High school car line entry is at the baseball/softball complex entrance. Cars should remain single file until buses unload at 7:15am. After that, cars may begin two lanes past the final student parking entrance, being mindful to leave the entrance open for students and visitors. Middle school car line entry begins at the final 3-way stop on Sam Powell, just before the tennis courts. Cars should remain in single file and not block the exit of the 3-way stop. School doors open at 7:15am. Upon arrival, students in the high school car line and all bus riders will enter the building through the high school gym doors. Middle school bus riders will report to the middle school gym. Students in the middle school car line will enter the building at the middle school entrance and report to the cafeteria. Families with both middle and high can choose which car line they prefer. At 7:35am students will be dismissed to their first class of the day. Any business students need to complete before school starts can be done from 7:35am – 7:45am when they should be in their first class. This includes delivering notes to the office, using the restroom, visiting the vending machines, or other activities that must wait until 7:35am. The use of cell phones is prohibited on school campus once students enter the building. Students may not be on their cell phones or other electronic devices during morning arrival time.

Student Parking- SMMHS have assigned parking spots for 2025-26. After all spots have been assigned in the main student parking, spots will be assigned at the football stadium parking lot. Students must park in their designated parking spot each day and must have their parking tag visible from their rearview mirror when parked. Students are also responsible for updating their car information with the office if it changes during the year. Any students who could not attend teh 12th and 11th grade parking pass date plus all other student drivers will purchase passes on August 8th from 8:30am- 9:30am. Don’t forget to purchase chromebook insurance for the ’25-’26 school year! It’s only $15 per student and can save you from having to pay the entire replacement cost in the case of loss or theft. CLICK HERE for information on how to purchase insurance for this school year.

Seniors who have submitted and received approval for painting their parking lot space can paint their spaces on July 31st from 8-10am. The make-up date is August 8th from 8-10am.

Schedule note- While students may be able to see their schedule through certain apps online, schedules are still being finalized and what is reflected online may change before the first day of school. 6th grade schedules will be distributed during orientation. Schedules should be live for all to access by Tuesday, August 7th.

MS Bowling is open to all students in grades 6 – 8 and our session will begin Friday, August 15, 2025. We will bowl every Friday for 8 weeks at SpareTime Hixson from 4:15 – 5:30. The cost is approximately $65.It is a very casual atmosphere with a little bit of coaching sprinkled in. The goal is for the kids to have fun bowling and with their friends! Signal Mountain MS Tennis Tryouts will be on Aug 7th at 3:30-5:00 at the new tennis courts at school. All students will be evaluated on forehand, backhand, serves and game play. Players must have all paperwork updated on final forms on Aug 5th . Email Coach McClain if you have questions.

SCHEDULE- As many of you discussed with students during course selection. SMMHS is making a change to the student schedule for next year. This transition will shift the DS block to combine with our advisory/SOAR block to meet 4 times a week for 45 minutes. CLUBS- The schedule changes will also allow SMMHS to periodically offer time for clubs during school. This exciting change now gives access to all students to attend clubs, when they previously only met after school. Clubs may still continue after school, but every student will have access to clubs during school!

BREAKFAST- Breakfast is BACK at SMMHS! Starting in September, our cafeteria will be open when the doors open at 7:15am for students to purchase breakfast items! Students can choose from: Build your own breakfast sandwich, assorted pastries heated to order, assorted fresh fruits, orange juice, milk, or iced coffee. Items can be purchased a-la-carte or as a meal. Prices: $3 – complete student breakfast. This must include 3 items (one must be fruit, juice, or veg) and may include up to 5 items (only 1 entrée). $1.50 – breakfast entrée a-la-carte. Breakfast sandwiches a-la-carte may cost more depending on what is included.

TURF AND TRACK- the new turf/track project will be near completion by the first day of school. Work on the track will continue through August. We hope to see everyone at our first home game on August 29th to commemorate this update to our facilities!

ROAD REPAVING- SMMHS welcomes a much needed repaving of Sam Powell Trail! The project is near completion and will be ready for our first day of school!

At the end of each week throughout the school year, families should be on the lookout for a Weekly Parent Communication email. These emails contain celebrations, informational items, and calendar items to keep everyone informed. Mountain Education Foundation is seeking a part-time Event Coordinator, for approximately 40-60 hours per month at $25/hour. Position is an independent contractor. Hours are seasonal based on event schedules and not evenly distributed, with significant flexibility during the planning periods. Some evening and weekend work is required for the events.
